Minneapolis Police Stress Safety and Zero Tolerance for Violence Ahead of Fourth of July Celebrations

As Independence Day festivities wind down, the Minneapolis Police Department has taken to social media to remind residents about the importance of celebrating safely and responsibly. Echoing concerns over rising incidents during the holiday, the department’s post highlighted that “Violence won’t be tolerated,” emphasizing the arrest of 35 individuals last year for serious offenses including Riot and Assault on a Police Officer during the holiday.

Amid the sparkling fanfare of fireworks that traditionally mark the Fourth of July celebration, safety tips were underscored; the department strongly advised that fireworks be lit outdoors away from flammable materials, handled solely by adults with children under close supervision when using sparklers not forgetting the importance of sober supervision since alcohol and fireworks are a dangerous combination, they should be soaked in water before disposal, and it was reiterated that only legal fireworks should be used—with a clear warning that reckless use or endangering others can and will lead to arrests.
