After closing its doors at the start of 2025, The Malt Shop is set to reopen under new ownership.
The south Minneapolis institution, which has been selling malts, shakes and burgers since 1973, closed in late January after failing to renew its liquor license, as reported at the time by Southwest Voices.
But its return had been teased on its Facebook pages, culminating with a post on July 3 confirming that the restaurant is “coming back to life under new ownership – and opening this summer.”
An updated website has also been launched, promising “a refreshed vibe and a return to everything people have always loved.”…
