Minneapolis streets witnessed an unusual encounter when a man claiming to be on a “secret mission” for the U.S. government was busted for operating a vehicle with a stolen government plate. According to a social media post by the Minneapolis Police Department, officers patrolling the 5th Precinct’s Lyndale Avenue were alerted by an automatic license plate reader (ALPR) to the presence of the stolen plate.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers questioned the driver regarding his affiliation with government service. The driver’s response was not only unusual but also quickly proven to be fabricated. “I’m on a ‘secret mission’ and it’s ‘classified’,” he claimed, as the officers’ skepticism likely began to immediately rise. The police, not swayed by the driver’s attempt to cloak his illegality in mystery, discovered that the man was not, in fact, a government employee but had instead chosen to improperly adorn his car with stolen credentials.
