Gov. Walz activates Minnesota National Guard after Saint Paul cyberattack

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz issued an executive order on Tuesday, July 29, which activates cyber protection assets from the Minnesota National Guard in response to a cyberattack on the city of Saint Paul.

St. Paul’s website says it is responding to a “digital security incident” that is temporarily impacting access to some internal systems and online services.  Mayor Melvin Carter says the city has declared a state of emergency to address the attack.

“This breach was intentionally caused by a criminal external threat actor,” Carter explained, during an. “While our investigation is ongoing and we continue working to confirm what systems were accessed and what data, if any, may have been stolen.” The city is encouraging its staff to take precautions in their own digital security.
