A Minnesota sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle over the weekend going well over the speed limit on a popular and busy Minnesota highway. Luckily for the rest of us, the traffic stop occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 26.
120+ in a 60 mph zone
On Saturday morning, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office posted the above social media post alerting residents to a traffic stop that had occurred while they were sleeping. The post reads:
At 0240 hours this morning, Deputy Hintz, who is assigned as the Newport Deputy, was monitoring traffic on Highway 61 in Newport. Deputy Hintz observed a vehicle driving at an extremely high rate of speed. Deputy Hintz activated his radar, and it showed the vehicle’s speed to be 124 mph. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was arrested for Reckless Driving and Speed 124/60 (+64).
Of the 477 traffic fatalities on Minnesota Roads in 2024, 138 had speed as a contributing factor.…
