A Burnsville man has been found guilty of killing and dismembering his 82-year-old mother.
A jury found Troy Michael Mitteness, 58, guilty of one count of premeditated 1st-degree murder and one count of intentional 2nd-degree murder in Dakota County Court on Wednesday.
He had previously indicted by a grand jury in the death of his mother, Sandra Viola Mitteness, who he fatally stabbed on June 2, 2022 with a large kitchen knife at his home on Riverwood Drive. He initially tried to cover up her killing before he eventually confessed.
Mitteness told police that he had spent all of her money and that she was becoming suspicious. Mitteness told investigators he “researched online how to kill an elderly person without poison” and decided “to stab her while she was in her bed.”…
