The Minneapolis City Council will consider whether to extend two contracts for a pastor who was cut out of a violence interrupter contract earlier this year.
The Rev. Jerry McAfee, head of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and nonprofit Salem Inc., got into hot water with city officials earlier this year after he was accused of leveling threats and homophobic insults at City Council members during a public hearing.
In March, city staff pulled back on a proposed $643,000 violence interrupter contract with Salem Inc. after two members of McAfee’s violence interrupter group, 21 Days of Peace, allegedly got into a shootout in Minneapolis.
