SILVER BAY, Minn. — Four young girls from the Twin Cities are safe after being rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew from Traverse City, Michigan, early Sunday morning on Lake Superior.
Per an Aug. 20 news release, the girls — ages 14, 13, 10 and 8 — had been paddle-boarding Saturday evening when they became stranded on a small island. Local emergency crews determined the water conditions were too dangerous for a boat rescue, prompting the call for Coast Guard air support.
The rescue crew included Lt. j.g. Patrick Grissler, aircraft commander; Lt. j.g. Daniel Taglianetti, copilot; AST2 Nicholas Mauricio, rescue swimmer; and AMT3 Lorenzo Giambanco, flight mechanic. The team said the mission took just over five hours from deployment to recovery…
