Minneapolis Police Safely Resolve Armed Standoff Using De-escalation Techniques and Drone Technology

In an incident that could have escalated into a more severe conflict, Minneapolis Police Department officers successfully de-escalated a high-risk situation involving an intoxicated woman discharging a firearm. According to a recent social media post from the Minneapolis Police Department, the police responded to a call on the 1400 block of Irving Avenue North, where they found the woman on a rooftop balcony.

Following new training tactics, the negotiators approached to engage with the woman, while an aerial drone was safely dispatched to check the balcony. Officers, equipped with protective gear, were involved in what easily could have turned into an encounter fraught with violence. After the team’s effort, they located the woman inside, where she had passed out in her bed, and took her into custody without further incident…
