Southside Back In The Day 2025: A Community Tradition in Photos

For 16 years, Southside Back In The Day has brought neighbors, families, and friends together at Phelps Park to celebrate the legacy and resilience of South Minneapolis. What began as a backyard reunion has grown into a beloved community festival that draws more than a thousand people each year.

This year’s theme, “Trust & Believe: Everything is Going to Be Alright,” carried through the day with music, food, wellness activities, and cultural pride. Guests enjoyed the ’90s Car Show, a spirited 3-on-3 basketball tournament, free haircuts, health screenings, food trucks, vendors, and more. Community Recognition Awards honored local leaders, while journalist Al Brown was presented with the Guardian of the Story Award for his dedication to the Black press and lifelong service to the community…
