Minneapolis officials OK lawsuit against landlord over homeless encampment

The City of Minneapolis could sue a local landlord over a homeless encampment in his East Lake Street parking lot.

The Minneapolis City Council voted 6-4 to authorize legal action against Hamoudi Sabri following a closed session Monday that lasted about three hours.

Since July, Sabri has invited dozens of unhoused south Minneapolis residents to set up their tents in the parking lot behind a vacant building that he owns in the Longfellow neighborhood near South 28th Avenue and East Lake Street, and he has ignored the city’s plea to shut it down…
