Smorgie’s opens in downtown Minneapolis near Target Center

There’s a new spot for sports and music fans to grab a drink and bite to eat during a night out in downtown Minneapolis. Even after midnight on a Monday.

Smorgie’s held its grand opening Tuesday at 508 N. First Ave., a block from Target Center and two blocks from First Avenue. That’s the former 508 Bar & Restaurant space next to Pizza La Vista and The Loon Cafe.

The restaurant and bar, whose name is short for smorgasbord, focuses on affordable and nostalgic comfort food. Most of the menu items range from $8-$12, including cheese curds, mini corn dogs, walking tacos, and tater tot hot dish.
