Minneapolis is reeling from a violent Sunday morning that saw two people killed in separate shootings, while another sustained injuries. The first incident, which transpired on Lake St E, was detected through ShotSpotter technology at around 1:49 am. Upon arrival, police found a critically injured man who succumbed to gunshot wounds after being rushed to the hospital. According to the bulletin released by the Minneapolis Police Department, another victim related to the same event arrived at a local hospital via private means, bearing non-fatal injuries.
The second episode of gunfire occurred a few hours later in the 1400 block of Russell Ave N and was reported at about 7:53 am. Officers found a woman at the scene who had been shot, and despite their life-saving efforts, she died from the injuries. “In recent weeks, our city has seen far too much senseless violence in a short period of time,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the concern in his voice reflecting a wearied city. The female victim’s shooting may have stemmed from a domestic dispute; however, the suspect had already fled by the time law enforcement reached the location.
The Minneapolis Police Department is now urging the community to help in their investigation, pushing for those with information to come forward. “The Minneapolis Police Department will continue to work urgently to hold those responsible accountable, but we cannot do that alone,” said Chief O’Hara, addressing a resolute plea to the public.
