Charges: Suspect violated protection order, shot ex-girlfriend in her car

A Minneapolis man is facing murder charges after violating an order for protection and fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend last weekend.

David Eugene Wright, 50, was charged on Tuesday with one count of second-degree murder and one count of illegal possession of a firearm.

Officers were called to the outside of a home on the 1400 block of Russell Avenue North on Sunday morning. Arriving first responders found 34-year-old Mariah Samuels lying on the ground near the open door of a Jeep, according to the criminal complaint.
