Mounds View’s missing 38-foot mermaid will return this weekend

The mermaid is finally returning to Mounds View.

Once a fixture of the city, the 38-foot fiberglass mermaid was taken down from the roof of the Mermaid Entertainment and Event Center in 2018 after it was deemed structurally unsound.

However, its absence was felt, and Mayor Zach Lindstrom made it a mission to bring back that symbol of the city.

Last year, a plan was put into motion to have the mermaid restored by Mike’s Painting in New Ulm, the Star Tribune reports. The project, which included a paint job and the filling in of bullet holes, was expected to cost between $25,000 and $35,000…
