Former KSTP-TV anchor Stan Turner dies after battle with cancer

Stan Turner, a longtime Twin Cities newsman who spent more than 40 years as a broadcaster, including at KSTP-TV, died Sunday after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.

Turner started his broadcasting career in 1965 in the news department at KDWB Radio. He joined KSTP Radio in 1966, then rejoined KDWB as news director a year later before moving to KSTP and Hubbard Broadcasting long-term in 1968.

While at KSTP, Turner held multiple roles, including as government reporter, associate news director, news director, weekend anchor and weekday co-anchor.

In 1989, he also helped launch a new satellite news operation, CONUS/All News Channel, where he became the primetime weekday anchor and writer.

After more than three decades at KSTP, Turner moved to MNN Radio Network, where he was a newscaster, reporter and news director while also hosting a Saturday program on KLBB Radio…
