The parking lot near South 28th Avenue and East Lake Street in Minneapolis became a community for some after struggling to find housing. The city cleared the encampment last month after a shooting.
“We’re all people and we come from different walks of life,” said a woman who did an on-camera interview with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS but did not wish to share her name. “We can’t be in peace no matter what. It’s not fair people have peace in their homes, in their jobs, walking around but what about our peace? What about our peace? We don’t get none.”
She explained she’s struggled to find a shelter bed after moving to the Twin Cities from Omaha to search for a relative. Calls to the Adult Shelter Connect line have been unsuccessful…
