The Bloomington Police Department has emerged victorious in the All Traffic Solutions’ annual sign contest, a national competition that encourages creative ways to promote traffic safety. The winning entry, according to a statement released by the City of Bloomington’s official news site, featured Police Officer Chris Wegner casually monitoring traffic speeds from the comfort of a lawn chair, coffee in hand. Bloomington residents evidently got a kick out of the humorous approach, as their votes helped secure the top spot for their local department.
As a reward for their win, the BPD is set to receive a new SpeedAlert 18 radar message sign as well as a year’s subscription to TraffiCloud®, which is designed to further enhance traffic safety measures in the area. In a video that can be viewed at blm.mn/bpd-video, Officer Wegner can be seen plainly keeping track of passing vehicles, a lighthearted reminder to the community to adhere to speed limits.
The competition invited agencies from across the nation to submit videos that demonstrate how they utilize radar message signs to slow down drivers, share relevant alerts, and gather important traffic data.
