Roadside blast leads deputies to Big Lake bomb lab

A roadside explosion in Big Lake Township led deputies to what they describe as a filthy home-based explosives lab where a child was living amid guns, drugs and 3D-printed weapon parts — and to a second bomb packed with nails and BBs.

Authorities say the Oct. 21 blast came from a white Dodge Challenger where Jantje Rorman, 50, of Big Lake, and his nephew, Ethan Rorman, 24, of Coon Rapids, were tossing homemade explosives from the moving car, according to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office.

The late-night patrol stop has since spiraled into state and federal cases alleging drug use, child endangerment and a backyard arsenal of improvised weapons…
