What’s open and what’s closed in Minnesota on Veterans Day 2025

Veterans Day falls on Tuesday this year. It’s a federal holiday, so expect some closures, especially government buildings and services.

Here’s a quick guide to what’s open and what isn’t:

Government services

Government offices and services will largely be closed on Tuesday. That goes for federal, county and city offices, as well as the federal and state courts.

Banks

Veterans Day is a federal holiday, so expect most bank branches to be closed. ATMs will still be available.

Mail and packages

The United States Postal Service is closed. However, most UPS and FedEx services will be available and locations will be open.

Malls, stores and restaurants

Most malls, stores and restaurants will be open on Tuesday, with many offering special deals and discounts for veterans and current members of the armed services.

Libraries

Most libraries will be closed, including the major networks like Hennepin County,Ramsey County, the Duluth Public Library, the St. Paul Public Library, and the Rochester Public Library.

Garbage collection

While it may vary between municipalities, in Minneapolis and St. Paul there will be no change to the garbage and recycling collection schedule on Veterans Day, so those with a Tuesday pickup date will see their trash collected as normal.

Parking

On-street parking meters are free in Minneapolis on Veterans Day, though some spaces operated by Minneapolis Parks and Recreation and the University of Minnesota may not be – so be sure to check the meter if you’re in one of their areas.

Parking meters in St. Paul are also not enforced on Tuesday.

Buses and trains

Most public transportation services, including Metro Transit in the Twin Cities, will run on a regular schedule on Tuesday, but it’s a good idea to check the schedule to confirm.

Honoring veterans

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs will host the state’s official event Tuesday at the Minnesota National Guard Mankato Armory…
