Minneapolis man, 70, rescued after getting lost hunting in Northland woods

A Minneapolis man had to be rescued when he became lost while tracking a deer in the northern Minnesota woods.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says it was called at 7:10 p.m. by the 70-year-old’s wife, who says her husband had contacted her to say he had gotten lost several miles east of the City of Cook.

Around the same time, the sheriff’s office noted a dropped 911 call from the man’s cellphone, which they were able to use to get general GPS coordinates, sparking a rescue response.

The man was found safe and uninjured “deep into the woods” by a search party that contained “personnel trained and experienced heavily in human tracking,” with assistance provided by U.S. Border Patrol, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad, the Minnesota DNR and the Bois Forte/Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Department…
