Man accused of firebombing Minneapolis cafe charged in federal court

MINNEAPOLIS — A Fridley man accused of throwing homemade fire bombs at a Minneapolis cafe is now facing federal charges.

30-year-old Firmosa Ahmed Umar is accused of significantly damaging Fletcher’s Ice Cream & Cafe in October. Police were called to the cafe in the middle of a weekday for a man reportedly throwing a Molotov cocktail through the window. Officers believe this was the same man who did something similar the day before.

The business sustained damage to a large front window, nearby walls and cement infrastructure. Among the fire debris, investigators recovered two broken glass bottles consistent with Molotov cocktails and the presence of an accelerant…
