In Minneapolis, a city persistently grappling with the relations between law enforcement and its citizens, a recent instance of crime interception has been brought to the public eye through social media. The Minneapolis Police Department, in a Facebook post, shared the news of a robbery suspect’s arrest, following the utilization of what they referred to as one of the numerous tools at their disposal: technology.
The robbery, characterized by its violence, occurred at gunpoint near 17th and Cedar, and it was the sharp eye of surveillance technology, coupled with the victim’s detailed account, that led to the apprehension of the alleged perpetrator. The department’s post hailed their 3rd Precinct officers who, after reviewing footage from local cameras, located the suspect, who, in a futile attempt to evade capture, discarded a firearm in a nearby yard, and despite the suspect’s efforts the officers were able to take the individual into custody and retrieve the gun, the suspect’s history includes a past felony conviction and an involvement in a separate shooting incident.
