Officials in Richfield have found something unusual in the city’s Taft Lake: jellyfish.
The City of Richfield revealed on social media that staff conducting a routine water quality sampling at Taft Lake found two freshwater jellyfish swimming in the middle of the lake.
The species is not native to Minnesota but is also not considered invasive as they have “no known negative effects on the ecosystem,” according to the city.
While the species normally live in a small polyp at the bottom of the lake, they sometimes take their more recognized “medusa” form and swim upward when conditions allow…
