Federal and local law enforcement reportedly clashed with protesters during a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in St. Paul, resulting in at least two arrests and the deployment of chemical agents. State and city leaders have criticized the response, questioning whether police actions violated local restrictions on assisting immigration enforcement. Officials have since launched a formal review of the officers’ conduct.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the state had no prior notice of the operation. St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and the Council Vice President called for greater transparency on ICE’s use of force.
Walz said, “We received no heads up from federal authorities on this operation. While we are always willing to work together on public safety, that is clearly not what this chaotic situation was about.”…
