ICE operations reported in Minneapolis, Burnsville and St. Paul

(Burnsville, MN) — A Ring camera captures a Burnsville ICE raid that leaves a seven-year-old without his parents. According to family members, ICE detained four people all who are U.S. citizens and were able to show their paperwork to ICE eventually. Ring camera footage shows agents detaining a man while a woman runs away. Family said she ran into the house and hid with her seven-year-old boy before being detained. A family member is now taking care of the boy while they wait to find out what will happen to his parents.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Twin Cities Somali refugee who works as an addiction recovery leader has been arrested by ICE. Abdulkadir Sharif Abdi was arrested over the weekend and was described as a violent gang member. A friend of Abdi said he isn’t the person he was 20-years-ago and has since become a leader at a local substance abuse treatment facility. Abdi has been convicted on multiple charges, but since being released in 2007, he’s been a part of Alcoholics Anonymous and was recently promoted to a leadership role. This comes after Homeland Security recently launched Operation Metro Surge on the Twin Cities metro area.
