MPD Chief O’Hara defends budget overruns

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara defended his department’s nearly $20 million budget overspending, “reiterating that it was costly to restore the department’s depleted ranks,” the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. “Speaking before the [city] council, O’Hara attributed the inflated costs to a rapid and successful hiring spree, paired with ballooning overtime, unbudgeted settlement agreement expenditures and contractual back pay.”
