Madel’s run for governor fueled by anger over crime and fraud

Attorney Chris Madel has a thriving law practice that he could happily keep devoting his full time to if it weren’t for the anger that wells up in him when he sees so much crime outside his downtown Minneapolis offices. Throw in daily reports about state government fraud, and he decided he couldn’t just stay on the sidelines.

“I feel like our home is burning, and I felt like I just got to a point where I felt that if I didn’t get involved in this thing, I don’t want to be one of these people sitting on the sidelines complaining about everything all the time,” Madel said in an interview recorded for “At Issue with Tom Hauser.”

Madel says Governor Tim Walz’s announcement that he’s appointing a “Director of Program Integrity” and hiring an outside forensic accounting firm to help root out fraud isn’t much more than political window dressing. Madel says he has extensive experience fighting fraud in the private sector…
