Early Thursday morning in Minneapolis, a tense instance of police confrontation unfolded without any injuries after an officer-involved shooting. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara reported that officers from the Third Precinct had responded to a 911 call on the 3000 block of 5th Ave S. The caller had alleged that his neighbor brandished a firearm at his mother, after which the pair heard what sounded like a gun being racked, prompting them to retreat indoors for safety, as per a bulletin released by the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).
Arrival of the MPD was swift, with the incident occurring at roughly 12:34 a.m., and upon reaching the suspect’s apartment, the suspect emerged wielding a gun. Despite receiving multiple orders from the officers on scene to lay down the weapon, the suspect did not adhere, which led to one officer discharging their weapon twice. In what could have escalated into a grave scene, no one was struck by the gunfire.
The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately taken into custody, and a black handgun was uncovered at the location. The suspect now faces charges for pointing the handgun at the woman and has been booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
