Archbishop Hebda: ‘No reason to believe’ ICE will target churches this Christmas

A top religious leader in Minnesota is reassuring parishioners that immigration enforcement will not cross into places of worship this Christmas season.

Archbishop Bernard Hebda of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis released a statement on Wednesday saying that local Department of Homeland Security officials had told his representatives “they do not intend to conduct enforcement actions at churches and K-12 schools, unless there is an imminent public safety threat.”

Hebda added that he wasn’t aware of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operating at any of his archdiocese’s churches or schools and the church has “no reason to believe that will change.”…
