Filth, infestations at Minneapolis grocery distributor forces major recall

A Minneapolis grocery distributor recalled nearly 2,000 products on Friday after the Food and Drug Administration found filthy conditions at the facility, including rodent feces and bird droppings in areas where medicines, food and cosmetic products were held.

Gold Star Distribution’s 44-page list of recalled products includes a wide range of items, with popular medicines, such as Tylenol and NyQuil, and candies, such as Sour Patch Kids, on the list.

Officials say the products handled by the distributor might be contaminated with salmonella or other serious illness-causing organisms and customers and retailers should “destroy the products as soon as possible.”

“Products should not be shipped back to Gold Star under any circumstances,” the FDA’s website says. “Gold Star will provide refunds upon request.”…
