Federal Homeland Security agents were in Minneapolis this week conducting what Secretary Kristi Noem called a “massive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud,” according to a social media post she and Homeland Security officials shared.
The presence of HSI personnel and the surge of federal officers has raised tensions between state and federal agencies and put a spotlight on allegations of misuse of taxpayer funds tied to childcare and other social programs.
Noem posted video footage showing agents with Homeland Security Investigations questioning individuals at sites across the city, and FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau had “surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs.”…
