Art gallery in Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood announces closure

Squirrel Haus Arts, a multimedia arts space in Minneapolis, announced on New Year’s Eve that it is permanently closing.

“What a 10-year run it has been,” reads an announcement from Squirrel Haus Arts, signed by owners Michael and Spidie Meyer. “We opened SHA without a marketing plan, but rather a ‘let’s see what the arts market wanted’ attitude.”

The gallery, located in Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood – and instantly recognizable with its large mural of a squirrel wearing glasses – opened in 2015 and hosted gallery exhibitions, pop-up events, and other community gatherings.

“We are proud of our accomplishment, serving not only the visual and performance art community, but also non-profits, schools, and community groups,” the statement continues…
