Members of the American Indian Movement (AIM), including from Wisconsin’s chapter, are in Minneapolis this month to monitor ICE actions and to protect tribal members.
Tribal members in Wisconsin and around Indian Country were alarmed at reports of ICE agents detaining at least five Native Americans in the Minneapolis area during their immigration crackdown. There were also reports of ICE agents patrolling areas of the city where there is a heavy Indigenous presence, such as around tribal offices and businesses owned by tribal members.
Officials from every federally recognized tribal nation within Wisconsin released statements saying they were concerned about the reports and urged tribal members to be calm when approached by ICE agents.
