‘I thought I knew what I was going into’: L.A. woman reflects on Minneapolis protests

Faith leaders from around the country have been gathering in Minneapolis to be a witness to what’s been happening and to stand in peaceful protest. Among them was Valarie Kaur, a Los Angeles woman and the founder and leader of the Revolutionary Love Project.

“I thought I knew what I was going into when I went to Minneapolis,” she told KNX News. “When I came home, I sobbed when I walked through the door because my body finally knew I was safe. I had never been in an occupied city before. I did not know an American city could feel occupied. I did not know that you could be moving through a field where terror, danger could happen at any time, and any person you spoke with had a story where it had just happened to them or someone they loved.”
