Minneapolis City Council delays liquor license renewal for 2 downtown hotels housing ICE agents

A Minneapolis City Council committee delayed action on liquor license renewal requests by two downtown hotels because they’re housing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The council’s Committee of the Whole, which includes the entire council, approved more than 100 liquor licenses on Tuesday night but pushed action on two — those belonging to the Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis-Mill District and The Depot Minneapolis — until its next meeting on Feb. 17.

The decision was made on an 8-5 vote after 30 minutes of discussion that was, at times, lively. Council members Michael Rainville, LaTrisha Vetaw, Pearll Warren, Elizabeth Shaffer and Linea Palmisano voted against the delay after raising concerns of possible legal action against the city…
