New jazz club in Minneapolis’ Uptown gets opening date

Fresh beats are coming to Uptown.

Months after announcing plans to open at 2756 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis, the Brownstone Jazz Club will officially open its doors on Feb. 14.

The venue, which sits next to Isles Bun & Coffee, is cozy and adorned with photos of jazz luminaries, with broad street-level windows looking out onto the bustling uptown throughfare.

It’s the project of Johnnie Brown, a jazz vocalist who has been playing around Minnesota for more than 15 years. In October, he told Bring Me The News that the venue will focus on jazz, but not exclusively, with plans to bring an array of performers in gospel, funk, reggae, and other genres…
