Maya Cuisine is reopening in Northeast Minneapolis on Wednesday after a monthlong pause due to relentless immigration enforcement right outside its doors.
The beloved Mexican restaurant is situated in the Central Avenue corridor, which has seen daily ICE activity since the start of Operation Metro Surge in early December, with local officials reporting that caravans of federal agents are patrolling the area looking for people to detain, and community members turning out in droves to chase them away.
