Dave Chappelle adds surprise underplay gig to Minnesota visit

Earlier this month, comedian Dave Chappelle announced he’d be “pulling up” to the Twin Cities for a short-notice gig at Grand Casino Arena on Feb. 16.

At the time, he said he booked the show “to stand with a community at the center of events that should unite all Americans in defense of civil rights, human dignity, and principles we claim to hold sacred.”

Now, that one-night-only gig has turned into a two-night-only stay in town. On Friday, Live Nation announced that Chappelle would appear on Sunday, Feb. 15 for an underplay at the cozy Varsity Theater in Minneapolis.

The last-minute addition will offer an intimate stand-up set, with the Varsity Theater’s approximately 750-person capacity a good deal short of the many thousands that can be accommodated at Grand Casino Arena…
