Heavy snow on track to hit Minnesota midweek, followed by a late-week system

There is still a chance for multiple snowstorms to move through Minnesota this week, with one arriving Tuesday-Wednesday, and another possibly impacting the region Thursday night to Friday.

The models continue to focus on northern Minnesota with the first system, and it could be a significant snowfall with totals over 6 inches appearing likely, especially along the North Shore. .

Take a look below at the European, American, Canadian, and ICON models. All of them show northern Minnesota getting slammed with plowable snow Tuesday through Thursday. If this comes to fruition, the heaviest snow will miss the Twin Cities by 100-200 miles.

Rain and freezing rain could be the main precipitation types for areas that don’t get the snow, a la Brainerd, St. Cloud, and the Twin Cities. Those details will become clearer as the system closes in over the next 48 hours.

The track could bring the storm so far north that low temperatures in the Twin Cities on Wednesday only fall into the low 40s, which would be 15 degrees warmer than the normal high temperatures for this time of year.
