MINNEAPOLIS — Two News 8 journalists say tensions were palpable in Minneapolis as they helped WQAD’s sister station KARE 11 cover an ongoing federal immigration crackdown and the aftermath of two deadly shootings.
Cesar Sanchez and Ava Hedges traveled to Minneapolis at the end of January, spending three working days reporting on community response to increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity and the deaths of Renée Nicole Macklin Good and Alex Pretti, two American citizens who were fatally shot.
“As soon as we stepped onto the scene, you could kind of cut the tension with a knife,” Hedges said. “It was very tense. The emotion was heavy.”…
