Minnesota Man Charged in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash

Eagan, MN (MinnesotaNow) – A felony charge was filed today against a Minnesota man arrested following a deadly hit-and-run crash last weekend.

The Dakota County Attorney’s Office says 58-year-old Rolando Miranda Martinez faces one count of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. The Eagan man is accused of striking and killing 40-year-old Leslie Youngberg of Bloomington early Saturday.

Hit in Crosswalk

According to the criminal complaint, Eagan police responded around 2 AM Saturday to a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian. They found the victim lying face down on the pavement, and she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A witness told investigators that he and Youngberg were crossing Cliff Road when she was hit by an eastbound vehicle that did not stop.

Suspect Vehicle Located Hours Later

About nine hours later, the criminal complaint says Eagan police officers located an SUV with front-end damage registered to Martinez parked at his home. Investigators used car parts left at the scene and surveillance camera recordings to help identify the vehicle.

Admitted Hitting “Something”

Following his arrest, the Dakota County Attorney’s Office says Martinez admitted to driving at the time of the deadly incident and stated that he hit “something.” He also said that a “thing” jumped out at him, breaking the windshield of his SUV. The court document says he also admitted leaving the scene.

BAC Test Results Pending

Prosecutors say Martinez indicated that he was driving home from a bar in Minneapolis but denied he was drinking. Investigators are currently waiting for the results of testing on a sample of his blood and an examination of his cell phone…
