Brooklyn Park leaders consider purchase of MnDOT land valued at $2.5M

The Brooklyn Park Economic Development Authority is considering the purchase of a state-owned vacant property on Unity Avenue North. At a March 16 closed session, the EDA discussed an offer from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to sell roughly 18 acres of land within the city’s BioTech Innovation District for $2.5 million.

The property just northwest of highways 169 and 610 is described as “excess right-of-way” land by the state. The sale of comparable pieces of land southeast and southwest of the interchange were also discussed by MnDOT and the EDA in the mid 2010s. Those parcels have since been sold to developers and are currently occupied by The Packaging Lab, Tsugami America and other manufacturers.

The land northeast of the interchange was also purchased by the EDA in recent years but has not yet been developed…
