Before Zach Sussman opened Chilango with partner Farzad Freshtekh and chef Jorge Guzman, they discussed turning the Beach Club space across from Bde Maka Ska into a sports bar.
They went in another direction, and Chilango became a widely praised Tex-Mex hub. However, it closed in October, less than a year after Guzman announced that he was leaving. The team briefly planned on opening a casual restaurant called Lakeview Kitchen + Bar, but ultimately returned to an earlier idea.
In April, Sussman and Freshtekhu will open Asher’s Bar & Grill, a sports bar with what Sussman tells Bring Me The News is an “elevated” menu.
But “elevated” won’t be synonymous with expensive, and that’s part of what drives the concept…
