Minneapolis City Council goes into recess amid fiery debate, complaints of bullying

An hour into its meeting Thursday morning, the Minneapolis City Council took a recess to defuse tension after a discussion went off the rails, with members of the progressive and moderate factions accusing each other of disrespect and unequal treatment.

As the council debated a resolution urging European financial institutions to divest from companies that enable the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ICE, Council Member Aurin Chowdhury alleged that she heard someone “laugh and make snide remarks” while she was talking, without naming the colleague.

“Also, really disappointed as I’m making comments hearing my colleagues laugh and make snide remarks,” she said. “It’s extremely disappointing.”…
