Twin Cities man suffers severe burns while rescuing wife from house fire

A Twin Cities man is recovering from severe burns after a fire that destroyed his home and killed his service dog.

The fire broke out on March 25 while Leopoldo Martinez was grilling on his deck and briefly stepped inside to grab some vegetables, according to a GoFundMe, which says the whole deck was already in flames by the time he came back outside.

“Leopoldo made it outside with his service dog, but when he realized his wife wasn’t with him, he ran back inside to save her,” the fundraiser details. “He shielded her with his body as they escaped the fire. Sadly, his loyal service dog ran back inside after him and didn’t make it out.”…
