Police: Rep. Hudson was intoxicated, carrying gun during Rep. Engen’s DUI stop

Otsego-area Rep. Walter Hudson (R-Albertville) was intoxicated and wearing a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun in his waistband when Rep. Elliott Engen (R-White Bear Lake), the driver of the vehicle he was in, was arrested around 2:11 a.m. March 27 on suspicion of driving while impaired, according to the police report released Monday by the White Bear Lake Police Department.

When he was arrested, Engen said both of his passengers had been drinking. The second passenger was not identified in the report.

Additionally, during the stop, an officer reported observing a bottle of alcohol in a child’s car seat in the back seat, and that Hudson told the officer the bottle belonged to him…
