Minneapolis Police Chief O’Hara lacks city council votes for approval

Sources have told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara does not have enough city council support right now to be approved as top cop. A source close to the process said if the city council voted on Chief O’Hara now, his appointment would fail.

That source said Mayor Jacob Frey has not yet forwarded O’Hara’s name for official confirmation because the votes are not there. Last week, the city told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the mayor can hold a nomination for up to 210 days, taking the process into August.

The source said the mayor’s team is also working behind the scenes to try to build more support. O’Hara is now in his fourth year as Minneapolis’ police chief…
