MINNEAPOLIS — Construction at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, known as George Floyd Square, is set to begin in June. Work is expected to continue through the remainder of the year.
The intersection where George Floyd was murdered in 2020 transformed into a public memorial site soon after. Six years later, the space remains a spot of gathering and healing for members of the community and visitors from around the country and world. “People are still grieving,” said Floyd’s Angela Harrelson.
Harrelson said she hopes the construction work will be carried out in a respectful manner. “Don’t do this just as a job,” she said. “You’re going to be doing construction on the ground that he was murdered. You’re going to be out here doing construction on places where people cried their eyes out.”…
