Restaurant group files for bankruptcy, closing 1 of its 2 downtown Minneapolis eateries

An out-of-state restaurant group has closed one of its two eateries in downtown Minneapolis as the company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Less than six months after a rebrand, 801 on Nicollet has gone dark on the ground floor of U.S. Bancorp Center, with a sign at both entrances blaming “extenuating circumstances.”

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports that 801 Restaurant Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Friday, but expects its other downtown Minneapolis restaurant, 801 Chophouse, to remain open.

Before launching 801 on Nicollet in November, the restaurant group operated a different concept in the same space, 801 Fish, which opened in late 2023 and closed in mid-2025…
